We are recruiting

AFP is now recruiting volunteers for its summer cycle. Whether you are on a career break, a professional, a student or retired, we want to hear from you! To find out more, email , or call 0207 .

Volunteering towards Sustainable Development

International volunteering is a formal, unpaid and structured activity which provides individuals with an opportunity to share their own knowledge whilst developing their skill set further through taking on exciting new challenges. It contributes to the development of the community, charity and the volunteer.

AFP works with grassroots charities in Gujarat, Haryana, Punjab, Karnataka and Uttar Pradesh. These organisations identify areas in which specific skills are required from volunteers to address the needs of their beneficiaries. We believe that the volunteers have as much to share as to gain from being part of the work of a grassroots charity.

Who can volunteer?

We offer a range of placements for students, recent graduates, experienced professionals and retired people and the programme is open to British Asian Diasporia over the age of 18. We organise both long and short-term placements and we will advise you on which placements are best-suited based on your skills, experience, interests and availability.

Please note that AFP uses the following definition which looks at the features of the Diaspora group:
Territorial links: must have current or distant origins in a South Asian country.
Personal link: They must have emotional, family or financial links (remittances) with their country of heritage.

AFP designs your placement to suit both the needs of the volunteer and the charity who will host you. In order to get the most out of your experience, we will offer full and structured support before you leave, whilst you are on placement and when you return.

Jagruti Programme

The purpose of AFP's Jagruti Programme is to educate, empower and enable the Asian Diaspora to proactively partake in innovative development initiatives which have a sustainable positive impact on lives of people in South Asia.

The Programme's vision is to raise awareness about development issues being faced globally and specially relating these issues to South Asia.

Our Approach

We want to raise awareness about Development issues through interactive events. We have hosted a number of events ranging from photo exhibitions to talks from our returned volunteers, which have been themed around one of our focus areas. This approach has enabled us to engage people through debates and discussions which they can participate in.

The Sudarshan Project

The Asian Foundation for Philanthropy has secured funding from DFID for its latest project ‘Sudarshan’. Creating ethically sound organizations and increasing links to India is at the heart of this programme, with a special focus on development awareness and corporate social responsibility (CSR).

The first of its kind, the project will target Asian owned businesses across the UK to become more involved in tackling global developmental issues aligned with the Millenium Development Goals. The programme will also identify businesses who are interested in/already investing in India, and the positive impact they can have on local communities. The aim is also to promote understanding of how certain choices can impact on the world.
