Donations for change 2010
Over the past 6 months two key events have helped us raise over £11,000. An amazing £9100 was raised by our 12 10k runners in July and an additional £2100 was raised through our ‘Art with a Heart’ sale.
This money will now go to support the following AFP projects in India.
AWAG
With their progressive approach to supporting and empowering victims of domestic violence, AWAG includes support to children who have dropped out of education as a result of their home situation.
12-16 years old will be able to access tuition and computer classes in order to gain skills that will allow them to move into adulthood and employment.
Banavasi School
Girls at the school have been provided with bicycles by the Government in order to encourage higher female attendance at school. However there is no provision for the storage of these bicycles. As a result in the rainy season the bicycles get rusty and damaged, and expensive repairs are needed.
A bicycle shed will be built to help protect the bicycles and to ensure that schemes to encourage rural girls to attend school are successful.
Hope School Bhuj
For Hope School, reading and science is the focus. Since its establishment after the devastating earthquake of 2001, Hope School is growing. It now extends to include 6th standard and strives to provide good education to all its students.
The school’s library and science lab will be equipped with suitable resources and the school will be able to focus on improving reading and science teaching in the coming years.
Hope School Bangalore
Having moved from a cramped building to a new facility (about 200 meters away) in the backyard of a church, Hope School now has spacious, well-ventilated classrooms and a large play area. The school wants to optimize the use of the new grounds and offer its students ample opportunity to play sports.
Students in the school will be able to use suitable sporting equipment that will harness their special talents, as well as providing a safe and stimulating area for sporting activities.
SCORE
Score helps people with visual impairments to lead independent and informed life as possible. Its information highway ‘EYEWAY’ provides a 24/7 telephone Help Desk, regular radio programmes, accessible website, training programmes and digital talking books.
In order to secure ongoing funding, Score wants to tell the positive change stories of their beneficiaries.
Through the purchase of equipment and training, video case studies, stories and films will be produced so that Score can effectively advocate for the rights of people with visual impairments.
Sri Vidyanikethan School
Sri Vidyanikethan School provides much needed education to children living in the local slum community. It receives no funding from the Government and relies on donations to stay open.
Sponsorship will allow students to continue to go to school and secure the financial stability of the school for a year.
